Over the years I've come to recognize that in my own life, as well as the lives of others there are major moments that inspire a change of direction. Moments that set a new course for our journey. In this episode I explore these catalysts, how to manifest them for ourselves, and how to shift our experiences into becoming the best version of ourselves we can be.

Catalysts of Change
(0:01 - 3:38)
I was just talking with a friend of mine and she was sharing a moment in her life that was from then on forever etched in her memory and in her soul that shifted her whole journey and her whole experience. And I know in having that conversation, but just in my own journey, I shared similar because I also have a number of moments in my life that really shifted things for me in various directions. Some are things you see or experience.
Some are like internal realizations. Some are, you know, choices and decisions that I made. And I feel that similar for a lot of other people that they can point to these real, like inflection points on their journey and go, Oh yeah, when I did this here, like everything changed.
When I made this move, this was like, you know, something that occurred and, and it's come in different ways, but I feel that if you talk to anyone who has changed their life or their lifestyle, that they can point to something like this. And it's interesting, right? Because especially on a path of personal growth and, and, you know, development and that journey of, of improving, we don't know what we don't know. And we grow up with certain, I feel patterns or certain experiences, and we're possibly just not exposed to other ways of thinking or living or being.
I feel that's more possible now, given how, you know, deeply everyone's connected, you know, online and socially and what have you, but growing up, it wasn't as prevalent, right? Social media is still relatively young, even though we feel like we've been using it for a long time. It hasn't been around that long and, and the sharing of information, you know, through it. So I feel that people are more exposed to different ideas and similar now, but not necessarily since always, right? And, and you don't know what you don't know until you do.
And so how do you learn these things? Well, through an experience or through an observation, through a messenger, you know, of someone who shares an insight with you through a realization. And then these moments can shift your, your patterns. They can, they can rock you to the core pretty good, potentially, in any which way that it comes and arrives, the, the insight.
(3:40 - 7:56)
And from there, we make a choice, a conscious choice generally of upon receiving it, you know, that information, how we change. And we have the choice to change when we receive that information or not. And I feel this generally, you know, pertains in a large way in the comparison of like self-destructive versus, you know, self-loving behavior, you know, self-destructive, like unconscious self-destructive behavior versus conscious, you know, personal growth-minded behaviors.
But it can pertain to a lot of different things. And, and it lands, right? And it sticks, and you just kind of like sit with it and make some changes. And so no matter where you're at in your journey, and I know where I'm at in mine, these opportunities always present themselves for us to consider all the information and make a change, make a shift.
You know, what is working? What isn't working? What feels right? What doesn't feel right? You know, how am I participating in the world at present versus how I'd like to participate in the world? You know, how am I known? What am I known for versus now versus how I would like to be known or what I would like to be known for? You know, these types of questions and reflections can help shape the shift and then ask the deeper question of ourselves and say, what do I need to do to change that? Now there's the things we can control and the things we can't control. The things we can't control, we have to make peace with and trust that on our journeys what is meant for us will come and that the universe is conspiring in our favor in alignment with our greatest and highest good. Just consider that, just bring that in, just consider that and walk with that and just open to that potential and watch things open up with you in that.
So I'll suggest that but then there's the things we can control and the work in this respect is about exploring within the realm of the things I can control, how am I contributing to things that I don't want to experience or I am not enjoying experiencing or that are less than the experience I envisioned for myself versus you know, how am I not contributing to support those things that I want and seek for my life? The things you can control, right? And so some of us, we don't want to even look at that stuff, like we don't have a conversation, we want to like block it off, it's work, right? It's looking into ourselves, it's getting humble with that aspect of ourselves and exploring it. And it's personal work, you don't have to broadcast it, you don't need a big like, you know, crying real video on Instagram or something to show like, I did the work today and you know, and you're just falling apart or something, you know, emotionally with tears streaming down your face, that's not required, you know, this can be very quiet personal work. Some choose to express that way and I respect that, I mean, it's courageous in a number of ways, but you don't have to, right? So it's about exploring that.
(7:57 - 21:21)
And the catalyst to ask these questions I'm suggesting can come from these types of events and I can, or moments, or observations, you know, similar, I can point to probably a good like half dozen that really changed the direction of my life and when they come up, they present an opportunity. And so, you know, today is the day, if you're listening to this, and you're listening to it for some reason, is the call, is the challenge to say, where are you right now? How are you feeling about how everything's going today? What are the things you can't control about that? You know, what are the things that you can control about that? And how are you supporting or not within the realm of the things you can control your pursuit of the things that you want and that you seek for your life? And today is the day to just take a moment, if you're listening to this, and just reflect on those things. And it can come from just this call, this challenge of a message like this for me to you as a listener here.
You know, that, ask that request. Why are you listening to this right now? Why are you listening to this? You know, this podcast or however, whatever form you're listening to this in? How did you get here? And why are you meant to receive this message in this moment? That's up for you to explore and consider. But today is an opportunity to do that.
And sometimes you'll be compelled by events that are outside of you that will make you think about these things. And sometimes there is the voluntary potential of just hearing a message like this that says, ask the questions. And then from that, I will suggest, take some notes, right, write a little list out however your your best productive practices in taking ideas into action, but you know, meditate on this, make some notes.
And I welcome and encourage and challenge you to make the adjustments. This is the work for me. You know, I consider myself an alchemist, I came to realize that a long time ago.
As I experienced some of these messages, these, these catalysts, these moments that encouraged me to reflect on things and who I am and what I do. And one of the things I really enjoy doing, but as a part of who I am is, is, is in the realm of transformation is in the realm of turning things around is in the realm of taking, you know, lead and turning it into gold, you know, figuratively, generally speaking, but you understand the, you know, the metaphor. It's also a metaphor for the person, the individual, right? So how do we do that? What is the work, the process? You know, how do we, how do we try that? And how do we start that? And we do it from wherever we're at.
And we do it with whatever we have. And we start with with what's in our hands, which is with what's here for us to work and we just start doing that work. And the sooner we start doing that work, the sooner more resources, you know, meet us there to continue the work and continue to support that path and journey.
And so for myself, I reflect like this generally regularly, but like at a high level, like 10,000 feet of my whole life experience, like at least kind of every year, sometimes within the year, you know, I reflect on like how my year's going or where I'm at, what's going on, what's working, what isn't, you know, in business, we need to reflect on these things at reasonable milestones. We set, you know, an intention, a strategy path, a roadmap, based on a thesis that we believe if we do this thing, this thing will happen, that will grow or better the business. And as that's achieved, we look at it and say, you know, did that, does that, is that doing that thing? And if it is great, and if it isn't, explore why, why not and make necessary adjustments.
And so, you know, in my past, I feel I did some of that, but I also carried some destructive, generally destructive behaviors that were making it harder for me to, you know, focus and do that work. And as I've evolved into this more observant, aware, a conscious lifestyle of mine, I'm receiving the information and I'm digesting it and I'm considering it. I'm not ignoring it or suppressing it or just, you know, or just throwing it away.
Like everything's information, right? Signs, symbols, people, messages, moments, opportunities, you know, transactions, like everything is information, right? Which I receive, if you've been around me, you probably recognize that I move slower than the average person. A colleague was joking the other day, he's like, you eat so slow, you eat like three times slower than I think the average person. And I said, yeah.
And so what? I'm enjoying my food. And what is my rush? Like, where am I going? Right? What is my, what is my hurry? Because I'm right where I'm supposed to be. And also though, going slower allows me to see and receive more with all of my senses.
You know, if you're racing through things, if you're forcing things, if you're like pushing and you're burning the candle at both ends, like, okay, there's a, there's a theory and a philosophy that doing that will like get you farther. There are times we need to like, maybe, you know, put things in gear and like, kind of maybe push through something to get something done. But in living in more of a flow state, there's a deeper trust that you're, you know, you are, I am right where I'm supposed to be that everyone that's with me is there for a reason that they're, you know, insights and messages and moments that I'm meant to receive, and that I'm just present to observe what's occurring.
And, and be mindful to receive those insights, and those insights, which can then fuel answers or inspire answers to some of the questions that I'm asking. And referring to in this, in this episode, right, so it's come up a few times just talking about that, and, and have the moments, the inspiration for change, the, the moments that catalyze change, and, you know, the magic, and the beauty and the growth, and the realization or the achievement that comes from your realization, this type of information coming for us at all times ongoing. So I challenge and welcome you today to consider some of those ideas, get out there, do things, you know, explore, you know, experience sit with, and, and consider what you learned from those experiences.
And, and equally, do the work on the inside also, sitting with and exploring, how are things going? Are things working? And this is in business and in life? In what ways are things not working? And what way things are working? Which of those things are out of my control? And I just need to trust that they will find their way because they will. And in which way are things within my control that might be feeding that and fueling those things, fanning flames on the things that aren't working. And if we can control those things, or we find that there are many things that we can control that are, then the work is about us making those conscious choices and making those adjustments to stop feeding the things that aren't working and recalibrate them to feed the things that we want to feed the things that are working and give those more attention and grow more of those circumstances, you know, opportunities and more.
So that's, that's my thoughts for today. Some inspo for you there. So I invite you and challenge you to spend a little time with this work.
Let me know your thoughts on what's coming up for you in that respect. And, and hopefully it inspires you a bit in the in the ways that you do have the power to make some changes in your world. Based on this kind of general exercise, trust in your journey, no matter where you're at right now.
Get out of your own way is this work, but embrace the unknown and trust that is there to help you and support you and grow with you. So do the work, take the breath, hold some space, take some time to let that in and to help you. And, and I want to hear all about it.
So, so let me know if you have any thoughts or questions more about this. But I look forward to hearing how this, this exercise, how this, this work goes for you and what, what you see and realize and consider out there and how you recalibrate the choices you make, the adjustments you're making to make things, you know, better for yourself really, because that's what we need to do. And that's part of how we need to do it is to receive, let the inspiration in, take some time, consider these elements, and then do something about it, right.
And send the energy in the right places. So that's me today. Hope you're having an amazing day.

Many of you here might not yet know much about who I am, some of my life experiences, and why I may have anything of value to add to the conversation around the topics I'm exploring. Learn more about me in this post as I share who I am, and some of the wild ride I've been on thus far...
Improving our mental health can have profound and lasting impacts on our lives, the lives of those around us, and our communities. In Canada, it is estimated that 20% of Canadians experience problems with their mental health in any given year, and half of the population has faced some level of mental health issues by the time they turn 40. In this post I share tips and strategies that I've used over the years to improve my own mental health, which I feel may help you on your journey as well.
